About the Role

The General Assistant is a key support position within the Facilities Unit at the Independent Power Producer Office (IPPO), which operates under the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA). This role ensures a clean, functional, and well-maintained office environment while providing general operational assistance across IPPO facilities.

The IPPO, established in 2010, is responsible for procuring energy generation capacity from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to address South Africa’s electricity supply challenges. The office delivers expert services in energy procurement management, contract monitoring and evaluation, and professional advisory services, and is internationally recognized for its operational efficiency.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Facility Maintenance & General Assistance

  • Set up workstations based on departmental requests.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment, furniture, and work areas.
  • Perform daily building checks and minor fixes where possible.
  • Log and report faults promptly; follow up on repairs to ensure resolution.
  • Securely collect and shred paper documents under security supervision.
  • Assist in Bid Window preparation including document shredding, room setup, and supplying water/stationery.

2. Internal Logistics & Delivery

  • Collect, verify, and distribute stationery and office supplies.
  • Relocate office furniture and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Disconnect and reconnect equipment during office moves, ensuring safety compliance.

3. Asset & Key Management

  • Tag and record assets using a barcode system; update database entries.
  • Support relocation of assets and assist with packing/unpacking as instructed.
  • Manage key distribution logs; ensure keys are returned and matched correctly.

4. Teamwork & Self-Management

  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive work attitude.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Matric or equivalent

Experience

  • 4–5 years in general maintenance roles (e.g., basic repairs, fixture replacements)
  • 2–3 years of customer service experience supporting senior staff
  • 2–3 years of administrative experience (e.g., stock tracking via spreadsheets)
  • Basic computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Physically capable of performing manual tasks
